It messes up network settings and I can not connect to internet. Firewire adapters are often (always?) recognized as network cards, and assigned an IP address. You should be able to disable the Firewire/IEEE1394 network card by right clicking on Network Neighbourhood, selecting Properties, then right-clicking on

When the iPod boots the Linux kernel it will automatically configure its local ethernet device (ethernet over firewire/IEEE1394) and then starts inetd so that network connections via telnet may be made. The default configuration is for the iPod to use 192.10.1.2 and to allow telnet connections.

You can't network 2 PCs with a cable connection with just a switch. You end up having 3 cables to 2 ports, and that doesn't work very well. it down to the point where each PC, PC A & PC B, have only ONE WIRED RJ45 Ethernet 10/100Mbps connection, and they have atleast 1 Firewire IEEE1394(a) 400Mbps connection.

I can find no info on possibility of vmware being able to use a firewire ieee1394 port/card. What is the word on this? Current word *from me* (rank amature): No, Firewire is not directly supported by VMware as a network device. Use your Firewire device in the host and NAT it to guest. Cheers, Michael.

*shrug* My roommate has a DC and so do I, and we've been using our house network to get online with our DC's, as we haven't had a land based phone line for over a point a game at it, and with the DC ethernet adapters, have a much cheaper way of getting a LAN party going than buying firewire + ieee1394 hubs.
